Iowa wasn’t a major loss for Gov. John Kasich, since he had concentrated on New Hampshire in the hopes of doing well in the first primary in the nation there next week.

As Statehouse correspondent Karen Kasler reports, one pundit says the strategy may have a problem paying off.

Polls suggest Kasich could end up in as high as second place in Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire. But University of Cincinnati political science professor David Niven says he wonders about Kasich’s follow up act.

“This is the difficulty for John Kasich," said Niven. "He has to do very well in New Hampshire and then he has to find another place to do well, and those are going to be hard for him to identify.”

Niven says the strategy of skipping Iowa is a good one because the overall number of delegates at stake isn’t huge. But he says the attention there is. And he says the next states to vote, South Carolina and Nevada, may not be great states for Kasich.
