Cleveland’s New Year’s Eve party has been canceled, but Akron’s holiday festivities will go on. The Akron First Night arts and cultural event is celebrating its 20th year. Sharon Gillberg is director of communications for the Downtown Akron Partnership.
She says the event will be unchanged this year, but organizers are asking if changes need to be made for next year.

“We’ve asked the question ‘Should First Night continue in the same model that it is? Or should that evolve and change as downtown as a destination has changed?’ So we have begun some early conversations, hoping to get more feedback as the event concludes and into early next year to kind of see how that should be shaped differently.".

Gillberg says this year’s event incudes some new activities such as the Akron Video Game Truck and Akron Digital Media Center.
