One family in Kent is creating a safe-space for members in the LGBT community. Vera Campbell and her wife are turning their home into a shelter for those who have had trouble finding a place to live because of their LGBT status.

She says she wanted to create a safe after her experience coming out as transgender.

“We just realized that when dealing with the discrimination, and a lot of the stuff we dealt with together and with myself, that we wanted to create a safe place for people who would experience that kind of discrimination.”

Campbell says they already have one tenant, and they plan to launch their co-op by the beginning of next year.

Listener Comments:

Caution: well meaning helpers can get all 'fused up when it comes to operating housing. Suggest: get good legal advice.
