League backs election reform law referendum
The Ohio League of Women Voters are gathering petition signatures to stop the state's new election reform law from going into effect

The Ohio League of Women Voters takes issue with several parts of the new law including the reduction of time for in person and absentee voting and elimination of the requirement that poll workers direct voters to the correct precincts.
Nancy Brown, co-president of the group says it has quote….historically sought to remove obstacles to voting, to ensure all eligible voters can vote and that all valid votes are counted…..unquote. Opponents of the new law need to gather 231 thousand valid signatures by September 29th in order to prevent the new law from going into effect.
If they are successful, Ohio voters would vote on the bill in November 2012. Republicans who pushed the bill through the legislature say it is fair and will make sure the voting process is conducted the same in all of Ohio’s 88 counties. |
