A University of Akron junior has been named national player of the week by College Soccer News.

Kofi Sarkodie is a defender for Akron's top-ranked men's college soccer team and a likely candidate for the Hermann Trophy -- college soccer's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

This weekend, Akron shut out No. 4 North Carolina and No. 3 Wake Forest. Sarkodie is from central Ohio and is a 4.0 pre-med major.
