Family, survivors, activists talk during May 4, 1970 memorial
Thousands attend ceremony marking the 40th anniversary

Thousands gathered on the Kent State University campus Tuesday to mark the 40th anniversary of the May 4th, 1970, shootings. Nearly a dozen speakers paid tribute to the four students killed by national guardsmen.

Florence Schroeder is the mother of Bill Schroeder, one of the four students who died in the May 4th shootings. Schroeder was walking to class when he was shot.
Barry Levine spoke on behalf of Allison Krause, one of the four students killed May 4, 1970. Levine was Krause's boyfriend in 1970.
Gerald Casale is the founding member of the band DEVO and was a Kent State student who witnessed the May 4, 1970 shootings
Mary Vecchio is the young woman kneeling beside Jeffery Miller's body in the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo taken on May 4th, 1970.
Kent State instructor Chic Canfora is the sister of Alan Canfora, who was injured May 4th, 1970. She was among the Kent 25 indicted after the shootings.
