Akron hopes Bridgestone high-tech center starts something good
Project promises to keep and add nearly 1,000 jobs in Northeast Ohio

Akron celebrated the official start of construction today (Thursday) on Bridgestone Americas' $100million high-tech center.

Akron won the project with the help of more than $60 million in incentives, including a $5 million low-interest loan and improvements to roads and other infrastructure in the south Akron area. The project keeps more than 600 high-tech jobs in Akron and is expected to add 300 more jobs.

Tennessee had been competing for the project. 
Construction on the new facility is expected to be finished at the end of 2011.
