About 100 people attended the first meeting earlier this month, calling for more community policing and better police training. The next meeting is tomorrow night at 6 p.m., at Sagrada Familia church on Detroit Ave.

Cleveland City Councilman Matt Zone chairs the Safety Committee, and says a report will be compiled and presented to city officials and the Justice Department.

“The council is going to draw upon that report. There might be some things that we might move forward on, legislatively, through policy. There’ll be other things we can’t legislate but we could lobby for. There might be other things we will try to get to be part of a consent decree between the city and the DOJ.”

The Justice Department report cited Cleveland police for using excessive force, and for poor training. City Councilman Zone says three more listening sessions are slated for January, with dates and times to be announced.
