Politics Thursday, September 13, 2012 Romney hitting Painesville Friday GOP candidate targeting Cleveland suburbs by WKSU's KABIR BHATIA |
 Reporter Kabir Bhatia | | |
In The Region: Mitt Romney is campaigning in Ohio Friday, his third visit to the swing state since he clinched the Republican nomination for president.
Former Gov. Romney will be speaking at Lake Erie College in Painesville, northeast of Cleveland. He’s made repeated trips to suburban areas of the state this summer, but few to its cities.
Hiram College political scientist Jason Johnson says that’s no accident now that Obama has hit 50 percent in the polls, to Romney’s 45. |
“That means he’s in trouble, it means he’s gotta start peeling off the suburbs to major cities. It means he’s gotta make sure that people outside of Cleveland are hearing his voice. Cause if he loses Ohio, he’s got a really, really hard march to sweep both Florida and Virginia.”
Johnson says suburban voters are also more likely to feel President Obama has failed them on issues that are important to them, such as bringing down the rate of home foreclosures. |
