When Singer-songwriter Donovan emerged on the music scene in the mid-60s, some critics tagged him with the label “The New Dylan.” But from an early age, Donovan knew he wanted to be an artist that expanded boundaries.
From 1966 through 1969, Donovan scored a string of eleven Top 40 hits, including "Mellow Yellow," "Hurdy Gurdy Man" and "Atlantis." The poet/troubadour had transformed into a pop star.
Earlier this week, Gun N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose issued a rambling open letter to the Rock Hall, explaining why he would not be in Cleveland this weekend. Donovan says the induction is a real honor. Donovan will perform with John Mellencamp at Saturday’s big concert.
For 89.7 WKSU, I’m Bob Burford. |
