WKSU Hosts Hunger Challenge This Week
WKSU is hosting the 23rd annual Hunger Challenge this week. Donate to WKSU during this time and a thank you gift of meals will be donated to local foodbanks in your honor.
Last year, WKSU provided 20,000 meals on behalf of donors during the Hunger Challenge. This year, the goal is to receive enough donations to provide 25,000 meals.
WKSU employees stepped up their commitment to the Hunger Challenge this year, by volunteering at local foodbanks. As part of their volunteer work, staff bagged more than 1,445 brown lunches and made 810 hot meals for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank. At the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, they sorted 8,495 pounds of food which provides 7,079 meals to those in need.
As part of the Hunger Challenge, Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank employees Shelly Hinton and Dan Flowers, along with Greater Cleveland Food Bank employee Karen Pozna, will join WKSU news staff on-air to talk about hunger in Ohio.
Foodbank partners for the event include Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank and Kent State University’s Campus Kitchen.
The WKSU Hunger Challenge is sponsored by Audio Technica, Broken Rocks Café, Diebold Nixdorf, Direction Home Akron Canton, Dominion Energy, the J.M. Smucker Company, Oak Associates, Perantinides & Nolan and State and Federal Communications.
Donations can be made at WKSU.org or by calling 330-672-2132.
