The most famous golfer in the world will help Akron say goodbye to its Bridgestone Invitational tournament beginning Thursday.

This is the last year for the event that Tiger Woods has won eight times. He’s been trying to rebuild a career that was sidelined by a series of scandals and injuries.

Former Indians great Jim Thome will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame this weekend. Thome played 13 seasons in Cleveland and amassed 612 career home runs. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto said the Peoria, Ill., native was never considered a top prospect.

The American League beat the National League in last night’s All-Star game, 8-6 in 10 innings. 

The Indians sent six players to Washington, their most since 1999.

Catcher Yan Gomes was named an All-Star for the first time in his career, to replace injured Tampa Bay catcher Wilson Ramos. Gomes joined Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Michael Brantley, Trevor Bauer and Corey Kluber. Kluber didn’t play after receiving an injection in his knee.
