A Northeast Ohio member of the Ohio Board of Education wants local districts to decide for themselves how to handle bathroom policies for transgender students. Sarah Fowler of Rock Creek proposed Tuesday that local school boards be given an alternative to an Obama administration recommendation.

The first report from the team monitoring Cleveland’s police reform progress is out, and it shows mixed results. The report is part of last year’s consent decree between the city and the U.S. Justice Department.

The report gives Cleveland good marks for improving police training and use of force policies. But it says vast improvement is needed in speeding up the way the department handles civilian complaints.

Cleveland Community Police Commission Loses Another Member

Cleveland’s Community Police Commission has lost another member – this time one of its co-chairs, Craig Boise, dean of the Cleveland Marshall College of Law. 

Boise announced Thursday that he’s leaving Cleveland at the end of June to become dean of the Syracuse University law school.
