The Cavs and the Browns are taking different approaches in the aftermath of firing their coaches. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says interim coaches know their time at the helm may be short, and it adds a whole new dynamic to the team and its staff.

The tainted coordinator
When the Browns fired Hue Jackson with just three wins in two-plus seasons, they promoted defensive coordinator Gregg Williams as interim coach.

Two of Cleveland’s pro sports teams are at crossroads. Less than a day after the Cavs fired head coach Ty Lue, the Browns fired their coach, Hue Jackson. Now, both struggling teams will continue their seasons with interim leadership.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says it was quite a sudden shakeup in the sports scene. "Two head coaches. Two assistants. Two teams with two interim coaches. I’ve never had a back-to-back firing of coaches basically in 24 hours."

The Cavs began training camp this week on a much different tone. The face of the franchise, LeBron James, departed in the off season for the L.A. Lakers.

Terry Pluto said there's lots of mixed emotions. Some players are excited to see more playing time, while fans are bracing for a season of uncertainty.

Pluto says with James gone, there's no guarantee the team will even make the playoffs.

Now that the Cavs' season has ended, the summer of potential big changes begins. There’s lots of speculation about whether LeBron James will stay in Cleveland when his contract is up July 1, and what the rest of the team will look like next season.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says in addition to James' next decision, the front office has to take a close look at the coach, Tyronn Lue.

The Cavs returned to home court Wednesday night for Game 3 of the NBA Finals, but they didn’t get the advantage they had hoped, losing to Golden State, 110-102.

They are now on the brink of being swept out of the NBA Finals, down 0-3 in the series.

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue says the team was unable to maintain the lead they had going into halftime.

The Cavs lost against the Boston Celtics to fall 0-2 in the series. LeBron James scored a triple double with 42 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome a strong second half by Boston. James’ dominance in the playoffs over the years has taken its toll on a number of NBA coaches, including his own.
