This week, Kent State, The University of Akron and 10 other college basketball teams are competing in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament. The winner gets an automatic bid to March Madness. It's been 20 years since the NCAA awarded an invitation to another MAC team, called an at-large bid. But WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto says that could change this year with Buffalo.

The University of Akron introduced its new basketball coach today. John Groce comes to Akron after spending the past decade at Ohio University and Illinois, where he notched a combined four NCAA tournament wins.

WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto says Groce will be a good fit in Akron, since he’s had some success in the Mid-American Conference, and he knows the Midwest.

Northeast Ohio’s college basketball landscape is changing. After 13 seasons and more than 300 wins, University of Akron coach Keith Dambrot announced he’s leaving for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

Dambrot led his teams to the NCAA tournament four times. Despite being the favorites, the Zips lost to Kent State in the MAC tournament finals earlier this month.

The University of Akron men’s basketball team is dominating the Mid-American Conference this season and last night notched their 29the straight win at home.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says the Zips, led by veteran coach Keith Dambrot, have changed their approach this season.

The University of Akron has won 20-plus games for 12 seasons in a row, one of just a handful of Division I schools to accomplish that, according to Pluto.
