One Ohio Democratic congressman is giving qualified support to President Donald Trump’s proposal for tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

The proposes adding 25 percent to the cost of imported steel and 10 percent to aluminum. Congressman Tim Ryan told NPR he favors targeted tariffs that penalize specific countries for unlawful trade practices.

President Trump’s 2019 budget outline proposes drastic cuts to Great Lakes funding again. But the region's political forces are vowing to fight back.

The Trump budget would cut Great Lakes funding by 90 percent -- to just $30 million.  The money is used for projects like cleaning up pollution, protecting wildlife and rebuilding wetlands.

President Trump has until Friday to decide whether to release a secret Democratic rebuttal to the Nunes memo. Last week, the President released a previously-classified document authored by the Republican chair of the House Intelligence Committee Devin Nunes. It alleged the FBI misused its surveillance authority.
