A popular historic train is coming back to the Cuyahoga Valley. For the sixth year in a row, Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will offer excursions on the Nickel Plate steam locomotive. CVSR vice president of development, Bobby Dinkins, said the 1940s-themed train fits with the mission of historic preservation.

A team of dedicated volunteers calling themselves the “scrappy scrapers” has returned life to a mural on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

The mural depicts the everyday life of a group of Seminole Indians and had been covered by carpet since the early 80s.

The team used surgical scalpels to avoid damaging the original artwork.

Carol Schroeder led the effort.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is creating a new space for young riders. The Edu-trainment is currently being renovated to create an educational and entertaining space for children.

The new car is part of a master plan with the goal of enhancing the railroad.

Bobby Dinkins is the Vice President of Marketing and Development for the railroad. He says the goal for the train is to let kids have fun while getting to learn about the national park.

Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is launching a new program this summer to educate its guests. Visitors of any age can take a two-hour interactive train ride to learn more about the park’s history and its wildlife.

Director of Events Kenzie Conner says CVSR has worked with the National Park System on education programs before, but this new program will be led by local staff members.

CUYAHOGA VALLEY SCENIC RAILROAD

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is adding pieces of railway history to its collection.

The nonprofit is purchasing four railcars, including two dining railcars from the famous Amtrak California Zephyr line, which are complete with observation domes on top.

CEO Joe Mazur said the two cars will bring a new experience to the scenic tour through Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad has a new CEO. Joe Mazur accepted the job after six years as president and CEO of the International Soap Box Derby in Akron.

Mazur says he wants to add a train car with activities for children and specialty cars to accommodate the scenic railroad’s weekend crowd.
