The NBA has agreed on a plan to restart the season that was halted by the coronavirus pandemic in March. Twenty-two teams will compete at Disney World in Orlando beginning in August. But the Cleveland Cavaliers, last place in the Eastern Conference, are among the eight teams that didn’t qualify.

WKSU sports commentator Terry Pluto says the Cavs should still get a chance to play outside of the league's restart.

The Cavs play game 1 of the NBA Finals Thursday night against a familiar foe – The Golden State Warriors. The two teams are playing for the title for the fourth consecutive year.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says this Cavs team is much different than the one that lost in the Finals last year. Most notably, the team successfully moved on from Kyrie Irving in a big trade that initially went bust.

The Cavs are in Boston tonight for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The series is tied 2-2, with both teams winning their home games.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says the Celtics are undefeated, 9-0, at TD Garden, while the Cavs have lost just once at the Q.

Cavs star Kevin Love revealed Tuesday that he’s been struggling with mental health issues. Love wrote in an essay published in the Players’ Tribune that he left a game in November after suffering a panic attack.  He detailed how it left him confused and ashamed, and said that he’s started seeing a therapist.

The new-look Cavs are rejuvenated nearly one week after overhauling the roster. The Cavs have won back-to-back games since trading six players and adding four new ones. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says the Cavs instantly improved once they unloaded veterans like Isaiah Thomas and Dwyane Wade.

While the Cavaliers are still basking in the glory of their first championship, other NBA teams have begun the frenzy of assembling their rosters for next year. It’s called free agency – a period when teams can sign players whose contracts are up. And this month, they’ve been doling out dollars like never before. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says there have been some outrageously huge contracts handed out in the first week of free agency.

If the Cavs plan to return to the NBA Finals this year, they’ll have to keep winning for about another month and a half – into early June. That’s quite a lot of time on the court for a sport that began in October.

WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says when he started covering the NBA as a beat writer in the 1980's, he didn't believe veteran broadcasters who said he didn't know what he was in store for in covering the NBA playoffs. Then he quickly learned, "It's a totally different game."

The Cleveland Cavaliers begin their postseason run this weekend. They’ll have home court advantage during the Eastern Conference playoffs after securing the No. 1 seed this week. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says  the Cavs are considered a favorite to return to the NBA Finals, but this team has shown its flaws.
