Hammon's Address to the African-American in the State of New York circa 1806.

It was on this date in 1786 that the first African-American poet to be published in the U.S., Jupiter Hammon, made a speech at a meeting of the African Society advocating for emancipation. And it was on this date in 1869 that the Black Friday gold panic occurred.
