The Meat Inspection Act was signed on this date in 1906. The law ensures that livestock are slaughtered and processed under strictly regulated sanitary conditions.

It was on this date in 1700 that the Dutch colony of Gelderland adopted the Gregorian calendar. This meant that June 30th, 1700 was immediately followed by July 12th. And it was on this date in 1906 that President Theodore Roosevelt signed the Meat Inspection Act. The act prohibited the sale of adulterated or misbranded meat, and that livestock were slaughtered in sanitary conditions.
