Pictured is Vincent van Gogh's painting titled Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear. The bandaged ear was the result of Van Gogh having cut off his ear the previous year.

It was on this date in 1888 that Vincent Van Gogh cut off his ear and ended up in a mental institution for the next year. And on this date in 1938, actress Margaret Hamilton received second and third degree burns to her hands and arms after her broom caught on fire. She was playing the Wicked Witch of the West in the MGM Picture, the Wizard of Oz.
