It was on this day in 1866 that work began on the first underwater highway tunnel was constructed in Chicago. And on this date in 1950, U.S. President Harry S. Truman stated in regards to the ongoing fighting in Korea that he would "take whatever steps were necessary to contain expansion in Korea."
