Snowbound - Al & Emily Cantrell

Al and Emily have moved in and out of Nashville so many times that this most recent time they felt like they were moving back home! One of their other homes was in Montana, where they appeared in the Robert Redford film, "A River Runs Through It." Look fast. Their songwriting and performing is obviously their main focus, and they play and sing in many styles, including old jazz, western swing, bluegrass, and contemporary or classic folk.

Emily had this to say about the little holiday ditty they sent us. "Snowbound was written in Helena, Montana in the 'Casa de Musica,' our nickname for an old apartment building we shared with Jim Schulz. The song is perhaps about being stuck somewhere, but in a GOOD place. Kind of the way some folks feel about living in Montana! There's a far away feel to that state--and it's not just because it's a long way from any big city.

"Jim and I chose to give it an old-fashioned swing sound for the romantic element--like a '40s movie starring Sonja Henie and, of course, Al and I love to play swing music!"
