Bill Zorn on lead vocal, with Alex Hasselev and Rick Dougherty
The Fabulous Limeliters never did a Christmas album. Not in their 40 years! If they had, we'd probably have featured a cut from it as our "classic" during one hour. But when our producer Joe Gunderman asked Alex Hasselev, he said no, they never had. Well, why not do a song now and send it our way, Joe asked. And Alex thought it was a fine idea.

We decided to feature the complete song, something seldom done to this southern spiritual. It's a call and response work song, which John Lomax collected in Mississippi on a prison farm. The Limeliter's had performed it in 1999, and Bill has been doing it every year, but this is their first recording of it.
