It was about 2:00 a.m. on a February weekend, and Dave and Tracy were playing a showcase at the International Folk Alliance in Cleveland. That means they were taking turns with three other acts playing for an hour in a hotel room. The bed was pushed to one side to make room for some chairs and there were about 7 of us in there soaking up the music. At any given time there were about a dozen of these showcases going on, even at that hour. And the harmonies and the wonderful sound Dave and Tracy made really shined. In an "industry list" that was published later, they were reported to have topped the country in folk radio air play in 1999!
It was from that meeting with our producer, Joe, that an invitation to contribute to Ornaments came about. They said they had this song, which they'd performed for a few years, but had yet to record, and they'd be happy to do so for us. Their friend Arlene Hale joined in with a beautiful counter melody of "Joy To The World" near the end. |
