In The Region:

Officials are hoping to get public input Thursday on a $20 million plan to overhaul the facade, ticket lobby and baggage area at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

The plans include new floors, skylights, signs, lighting and windows as well as an upgrade of restrooms at the security checkpoint.

Spokeswoman Jacqueline Mayo says the renovations will be paid for with bonds on which the airlines have been paying debt service.

“The façade program is part of a customer service operational and an aesthetic positioning of the airport for our future. There’s no addition cost to the airlines or the airport customers for this project. We have the money and are now putting it to use. This project has been in the works for about five years.”

The public meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the RTA station at the airport.

None of the work will directly affect Concourse D, which United Airlines is abandoning as it shuts down its Cleveland hub. Mayo says discussions continue with United about what to do with that space.
