Health and Medicine Friday, March 8, 2013 NEOMED campus is expanding, including a public wellness center A health, wellness and medical education complex is slated for 2014 completion by WKSU's AMY COOKNICK | Reporter Amy Cooknick | | |
In The Region: Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown is just weeks away from breaking ground on an $84 million health, wellness and medical education complex.
Akron-based Signet Development will construct the 177,338-square-foot complex, featuring a fitness center, pool, conference and catering services, therapy clinics, classrooms and lecture halls, retail services, primary care offices and dining areas. It's slated to open next summer.
NEOMED spokeswoman Heather Bing says Integrated Wellness Partners and Akron General Health System have already agreed to lease space within the complex. |
"The new facility will be several floors. ... There will be sort of an atrium on the first floor, so you'll have a designated area for the retail, designated area for the fitness and wellness and therapy services. And it will connect to our existing campus."
The complex is the third stage of a planned $160 million expansion to the medical school, which began with a research and graduate education building and student housing. |
