Health and Medicine Monday, February 25, 2013 The number of Ohio flu cases continues to drop The spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Health says Ohio had an earlier peak of flu activity this year by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
In The Region: The flu virus appears to be on its way out of Ohio. The number of new cases keeps dropping. That’s word from the Ohio Department of Health. Spokeswoman Tess Pollock gave this update to Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen. |
Pollock says the number of flu-related hospitalizations has declined about 20 percent fthe preceding week, and flu-related illnesses treated in doctor’s offices are down 52 percent.
The hospitalizations actually have been decreasing for weeks, during a time they usually climb. "We usually see the peak of flu activity this time of year in Ohio, but we had an earlier peak this year.”
Beyond coming earlier, the peak also was a lot higher this year compared to last.
Pollock says she expects the decrease will continue, but the flue season isn't over yet.
