Environment Wednesday, February 20, 2013 No cause yet in the massive Oberlin greenhouse fire One of the largest growers in the Midwest says only about 5 percent of its production area was damaged by WKSU's KABIR BHATIA |

In The Region: An Oberlin greenhouse operation -- one of the Midwest’s biggest – is recovering today after a fire last night that took 10 hours to extinguish.
Green Circle Growers supplies pansies, orchids and bonsai trees to Home Depot, Wal-Mart and other stores. Five of the company’s 105 acres of greenhouse was damaged last night, along with a one-acre barn.
A spokesman says that’s only about 5 percent of the company’s growing space, and alternative production areas are ready to pick up the slack. No injuries were reported and no cause has been determined. The fire originated in an outdoor storage area. The greenhouses are heated by a boiler fueled by wood chips. |
