Health and Medicine Wednesday, February 6, 2013 Influenza is still a threat in Northeast Ohio With the flu season typically at its peak in late February, health officials say Cuyahoga County residents may have to wait a little longer to be in the clear. Story by AKILAH PORTER |

In The Region: We still have two more months until flu season is over. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health’s Kevin Brennan says that this year’s flu season peaked earlier than previous years, but it is not too late to take precautions. |
“We want to make sure that we warn people that we absolutely are not out of the woods yet. We are forecasting another eight weeks, or so, of flu season. We want to make sure that we express to people that if you have not received a flu shot yet, that there is still time to do so, and we recommend that you do so.”
Brennan says 10 people died of the flu last month in Cuyahoga County. He says those most at risk of the flu include infants and the elderly. Besides the flu shot, health officials say the best way to avoid getting the flu is to wash your hands frequently. |
