Environment Monday, January 28, 2013 Honda bringing wind power to its Ohioplant The transmission plant in Ohio's wind-rich western region will be automaker's first powered by wind by WKSU's KABIR BHATIA |
 Reporter Kabir Bhatia | | |
In The Region: Honda is taking its first step toward wind power in Ohio. The automaker is planning to install two wind turbines at its Russells Point transmission plant, a half hour south of Lima in western Ohio. Spokesman Ron Lietzke says all of Honda’s facilities are trying to find ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and in this case, wind made perfect sense. |
“They studied the wind speed and evaluated whether wind energy, among other sources, would be viable for that plant. The study shows that the project would be cost effective over a long period of time, and it would not have a (negative) impact on the wildlife or toward the environment.”
Lietzke says the turbines will generate about 10 percent of the plant’s needs. The units will sit on 260-foot towers and are slated to begin spinning later this year. |
