Crime and Courts Thursday, January 17, 2013 Youngstown man is indicted for taking more than $400,000 from Medicaid The man is accused of transporting able-bodied patients to appointments by WKSU's OZIE IKUENOBE | Reporter Ozie Ikuenobe | | |
| A federal grand jury has indicted a Youngstown man on charges of health care fraud.
Rolando Sepulveda was indicted Thursday for allegedly taking more than $400,000 from the state to transport able-bodied patients with his ambulance service. Attorneys say Sepulveda was charging Medicaid as if the patients needed wheelchair assistance.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says Medicaid fraud is a multimillion-dollar business in Ohio. |
“You know, Medicaid is a great thing. Serves a lot of very needy people. But there are people out there who are the scam artists who are always trying to figure out how to rip somebody else off. And because there’s so much money out there, Medicaid provides an opportunity for them to do that.”
DeWine says that Sepulveda has fled the country and is believed to be in Puerto Rico. He is also accused of billing for an extra attendant who was never present or needed. |
