Ohio Tuesday, January 15, 2013 Democrats say moving the State of the State undercuts its value Says the address is supposed to be a gubernatorial blueprint for lawmakers by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES |
 Reporter Jo Ingles | | |
In The Region: Gov. Kasich isn’t saying yet where he plans to hold this year’s State of the State address. He will only say it’s in the western part of Ohio.
But one Democratic lawmaker says he doesn’t think lawmakers should consent to allowing the speech to be moved away from the Ohio Statehouse.
Northeast Ohio Representative Ron Gerberry says the State of the State is a special speech to the Ohio legislature and it should not be taken on the road. |
Ohio lawmakers approved a measure last year that allowed Governor Kasich to hold the State of the State address in Steubenville.
Fifty of the 99 members of the Ohio House of Representatives must vote to allow the annual gubernatorial speech to be moved.
But there are 60 Republicans in the Ohio House, and it is expected they will vote to allow Kasich, who is also a Republican, to take the speech on the road. |
