Economy and Business Monday, January 7, 2013 Latest jobs report shows huge increase in manufacturing jobs The auto industry has been a driving force for Ohio's manufacturing industries by WKSU's OZIE IKUENOBE | Reporter Ozie Ikuenobe | | |
| The U.S. jobs numbers for last month show that manufacturing jobs increased by 25-thousand.
Scott Paul, executive director of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, says the higher than expected increase follows patterns that he’s seen in the past with manufacturing jobs. He says the auto sector has done really well in the past couple years and that it is a driving force of Ohio’s many manufacturing industries. |
“The thing to look at is, first of all, how well is the auto sector doing? Because if the auto sector is doing well, it generally means that steel mills are up and running, tires factories are turning out tires, auto parts makers are making auto parts, and those are all big parts of the Ohio manufacturing sector as well.”
The compact Chevy Cruze built in Lordstown has been General Motors’ best-selling car for the last two years.
Paul says he’s not sure if the job increase could continue as a trend in 20-13, but he thinks that more factory openings instead of closings could be seen throughout the year. |
