Crime and Courts Thursday, December 6, 2012 Cleveland community will get some answers tonight on shooting Lots of questions remain about why police gave and continued the chase and opened fire by WKSU's M.L. SCHULTZE and KEVIN NIEDERMIER |

In The Region: Cleveland’s safety director, police chief and community relations board plan to meet tonight with the community to try to answer questions about a police chase and shooting that ended with two people dead a week ago. Neither were armed.
The community forum will begin at 6 p.m. at the Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church.
Cleveland Community Relations Director Blaine Griffin says the entire community is interested in honest answers about why police pursued the car and then fired nearly 140 bullets, killing Malissa Williams and Timothy Russell.

“One of the things I was encouraged by is in talking to some of the community activists like Black on Black Crime, … they all have confidence in the process. What they want to do is make sure there is full transparency and communication.”
The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and East Cleveland polilce are handling the investigation.
Cleveland plans similar community updates throughout the investigation process, which Mayor Frank Jackson says could take as much as a year.
Here's the address of the church: 1161 E. 105th St. in Cleveland. |
