Ohio Monday, November 26, 2012 Not paying sales tax could haunt you in the future Ohio law says you may owe sales tax on internet and catalogue sales by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |

In The Region: If you buy items over the internet or by catalogue and the company doesn’t charge you sales tax, you still owe it. That’s the warning from Ohio’s Tax Commissioner Joe Testa. He talks about how to stay legal, in this interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen. |
It's the purchaser's responsibility to keep track of their purchases, even though not all businesses are required to include sales tax especially if there is no physical presence in Ohio. It is recorded that there are about 57,000 Ohioans pay the used tax after the fact, but the number could be greater.
That’s Ohio Tax Commissioner Joe Testa. One argument for making sure that all purchases include a sales tax is if internet and catalogue sales go un-taxed, they have an unfair advantage over “brick and mortar” stores. |
