Ohio Wednesday, November 21, 2012 A twist on highway patrol busts
Ohio troopers arrest three men for counterfeiting thousands of dollars of perfume. by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
In The Region: Every week or two, we hear about the Ohio State Highway Patrol pulling over motorists for traffic violations and then discovering illegal drugs in the cars. Now, Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen reports a new twist to the story. |
(sound) Monday, the patrol reports, troopers stopped a van for speeding on the Ohio turnpike near Elyria. A drug sniffing dog indicated there was something suspicious, so the officers searched the vehicle. They found 1,497 bottles of counterfeit perfume and cologne. Patrol says the estimate street value is 75,000 dollars. The three men in the van, from Deerborn, MI, have all been charged with trademark counterfeiting and criminal simulation. Both of those are fourth-degree felonies. If they're convicted, they could be in prison for up to three years. |
