Ohio Monday, November 19, 2012 Food stamp cut for some Ohioans is softened Ohioans heat bill has a direct connection to monthly food stamp funds amount. by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
In The Region: Thousands of Ohio food stamp users are getting some relatively good news. Cuts in their monthly food stamp allotment will be about half of what had been anticipated.
Ben Johnson of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services explains what’s happening to people whose food stamps are based in part on what they pay to heat their homes. |
(sound) “We went back to the US Department of Agriculture and asked to recalculate the standard utility allowance and take into account the costs of electric heat and propane. We’re very appreciative of the USDA. They worked really closely with us in this last week and we were able to make the change.”
Food stamp officials say they don’t know YET how many Ohio households will be impacted by this softened cutback in food stamp allotments, but we DO know that about 800-thousand Ohio households currently receive food stamps. |
