In The Region: The Canton Palace Theatre is raising 1.35 million dollars for building renovations.
The campaign will run from next month through next August.
So far, the organization has raised nearly 800 thousand dollars from local Canton foundations for the first stage of construction. It will go toward plumbing and restroom restorations.
Executive Director Georgia Paxos says the preservation of the Canton Palace Theater plays an important role in the community. |
The theater also has a historical link to entertainers like East Canton native Jean Peters and big band conductor Count Basie, along with other celebrities.
The construction will improve the safety and aesthetics of the building as well increasing energy efficiency. |
