Education Monday, November 12, 2012 Statewide education coalition is formed Business owners, education leaders, teachers and many more form "Strong Schools, Strong Communities." by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES |
 Reporter Jo Ingles | | |
| A new group has been formed to advocate on behalf of public schools. This consortium, made up of education leaders, teachers, parents, small businesses, and others will keep an eye on issues affecting public education. Dennis Willard says the group, which is called “Strong Schools, Strong Communities,” is unlike the coalition that’s represented public schools in the past. |
“The coalition in the past--I don’t think--has had the ability to reach out to 613 school districts in every community in this state,” Willard says. “We are going to build Facebook, Twitter, webpage, you tube, we are going to start amassing email lists so that we can send out emails to people. We are going to communicate in a meaningful way.”
Willard says the group is not meant to endorse political candidates but to scrutinize and respond to legislation that could be harmful to public schools. He says the public understands issues involving their schools and will respond to information with this group. |
