In The Region: Voters were lining up this morning well before the sun came up, and polling places were seeing a steady – though not overwhelming – stream. WKSU’s M.L. Schultze has more. |
Paul Ritchey was among those heading into the Church of the Nazarene in Canton at daybreak before he headed out of town.
He knows he could have opted – as about a third of Ohio voters did – to vote early, as much as five weeks ago. But he likes to wait for Election Day.
“I know a lot of people say, ‘Why?’ I say I have to let it wait, have everybody have their say, watch all the debates, go through the whole situation, make a decision.’
Mariah Ophardt says voting has its frustrations, but is her civic duty.
"It’s hard to feel like it counts, but you have to keep doing it. And it’s the system that we’ve decided on as a country and you have to hope that it works."
Many of the voters said they felt a combination of overwhelmed, flattered and informed by all the attention Ohio voters are getting this year – and will be relieved when it’s over.
Voters weren’t the only ones out early this morning. Candidates themselves were pounding the last of their yard signs in at entry ways to polling places. |
