Ohio Friday, October 19, 2012 Ohio's unemployment rate down again A report just released says that the state's unemployment rate is less than the national average. by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |

In The Region: Ohio’s official unemployment rate has dropped again. The rate for September --- just announced – is 7 percent even. That’s down from 7.2 percent in August.
Still, officials at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services say there are “mixed” signals coming from the two sources that make up the unemployment data. Spokesman Ben Johnson talks about that in an interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen.

That’s Ben Johnson at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio’s official unemployment rate is now more than a full percentage point below the national average.
Ohio’s rate now stands at 7 percent even. The national rate is 8.1 percent. Arguments over who should get the credit for Ohio’s lower jobless rate and how much Ohio’s economy has improved are being tossed back and forth by supporters of President Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney in this key battleground state.
Today's (Friday’s) release of an updated unemployment rate for Ohio is the last before Election Day in November. |
