"Captain America" sequel coming to Cleveland
Filming for 2014 release will be second Marvel Films/northeast Ohio project
by WKSU's KABIR BHATIA

In The Region:
Northeast Ohio is getting a big boost on the big screen. WKSU’s Kabir Bhatia reports on a big budget sequel filming here next year.
The second “Captain America” film, titled “The Winter Soldier,” will be filmed here by Cleveland natives Anthony and Joe Russo.

The brothers are known for the TV shows “Arrested Development” and “Community.” Greater Cleveland Film Commission director Ivan Schwarz says Northeast Ohio’s varied landscape is a key selling point for all filmmakers.

“We have a lake, which can double as an ocean. We have rivers. We have urban, suburban. Waterfalls, farmland, covered bridges. It’s amazing what we have, all within a very close proximity to the downtown center. And the architecture here is stunning. And the light here is amazing. It’s a beautiful city.”

Schwarz says he hasn’t seen a script for the movie, so he doesn’t know exactly which locations the movie will need.

This is the second Marvel Studio's project filmed here after "The Avengers," which became the fastest film to ever gross $1 billion. Schwarz says Ohio’s film tax credits helped generate $87 million in northeast Ohio from 2009 to 2011.
