Sports Sunday, September 30, 2012 Indians season glides to a close Dismal summer closes with new interim manager and 15-3 stomp of KC Royals by WKSU's KABIR BHATIA |
 Reporter Kabir Bhatia | | |
In The Region: The Cleveland Indians begin a season-ending series tonight against the White Sox. After a dismal year, the team’s final week included a 15-3 routing of the Kansas City Royals Sunday, giving fan favorite Sandy Alomar a good first weekend as interim manager.
Jim Budka of Independence has been a season-ticket holder for 20 years, and welcomes a new manager.
“I think the change could have run deeper in the organization, too, maybe higher up. But that’s a start. You have first year managers like Don Mattingly, successful this year; Robin Ventura. So I think it’s about time to give Sandy a chance.”
Alomar was a six-time All-Star catcher during the 1990s with the Indians. The team says he and former Boston Red Sox Manager Terry Francona are among the finalists for the permanent manager’s job next season. Francona played briefly for the Indians in 1988 and was in the Indians front office in 2001 before heading to Boston. |
