Politics Friday, September 21, 2012 Ohio senator wants the House of Reps to vote on trade bill Senator Sherrod Brown proposed a bill requiring President Barack Obama to establish tariffs on China, but House Speaker John Boehner won't allow the vote. Story by AKILAH PORTER |

In The Region: Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown and 20 other Democratic senators have sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner requesting a vote on a bill making U.S. vehicles and parts more competitive with China. Last year, the Senate passed Brown’s bill, which would require President Obama to establish tariffs on Chinese exports if the U.S. Treasury Department discovers that China is manipulating its currency to out-perform America.
Brown says Boehner’s opposition is a stalling tactic. |

Boehner’s representatives argue that the blame should be put on President Obama, who has the power to advance the bill, but hasn’t done so.
The Obama administration filed a complaint against China with the World Trade Organization on Monday in reference to the issue. Also in July, the WTO received a different complaint against China from the Obama administration. |
