Friday, September 7, 2012 Ohioans react to Obama speech
by WKSU's MARK URYCKI This story is part of a special series.

 Senior Reporter Mark Urycki | | |
In The Region: Nearly 200 Ohio delegates to the Democratic National Convention are making their way home today from North Carolina. They got a send-off last night(Thurs) with an acceptance speech by President Obama. In Charlotte, WKSU's Mark Urycki asked a few about their reactions to the speech … |

There have been two common call and response chants among the Ohio delegation in Charlotte. The first one of course is OH-IO. And the second one, used by delegates from all the states, is “Fired Up – Ready To Go.” And that’s what Ohio Democrats were feeling after four or five very long days wrapped up with the final acceptance speech by their flag bearer Barack Obama. The President had one reference to the Buckeye state last night and got the Ohio section on their feet. He noted the comeback of the auto industry in Toledo.
Outside the convention hall delegate Cathina Hourani from Liberty Township near Cincinnati said the speech wasn’t new for her but it had its strong points. There should have been more about health care said Donald Nguyen, a physician from Dayton. But Nguyen thought Obama’s list of accomplishments was extraordinary. Inspiring is how Marco Summerville, a City Councilman from Akron described it. Lynn Buffington of Beaver Creek thought this might be the first campaign speech that many Americans have taken the time to listen to.
It was a one two punch, thought Lube Williams of Wooster. She’s been to five conventions and thought this was the best. She said Mr Obama helped set the record straight in his speech, countering Republican arguments made in Tampa. Williams thought no undecided voters could have listened to the President and remained undecided. |
