Tuesday, September 4, 2012 DNC spoofs the RNC before an appreciative Ohio audience Ryan's marathon claim and Clint Eastwood's chair are fodder by WKSU's MARK URYCKI This story is part of a special series.

 | | HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is the daughter of Ohio's former Gov. John Gilligan and says, at 91, he's ecstatic about the health-care overhaul. | | Courtesy of MARK URYCKI | It didn’t take long for speakers at the Democratic National Convention to spoof Republicans. Union leader Lee Saunders was talking to an empty chair in front of the Ohio delegation Monday – a not-too-subtle reference to Clint Eastwood’s odd performance at the Republican convention last week. Today, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, made a reference to Paul Ryan’s fib about his marathon time. She started by telling the Ohio delegation they must leave Charlotte as truth-tellers. |
“What the Republicans intend to do is reinvent history and then reinvent their party. They don’t have ideas that they are proud of, they don’t have a vision forward, they don’t have a message that resonates with people, so they’re going to make it up every step of the way. And by the way, I am a runner, I must confess, I do not do an under three-hour marathon.”
Paul Ryan had told a conservative radio show he had run a marathon in less than three hours; Runner’s World magazine tracked that claim down and found it actually took him more than four hours.
Sebelius is the daughter of former Ohio Gov. John Gilligan.
