Friday, August 31, 2012 Judge sides with Obama campaign to force weekend voting in Ohio Ohio republicans plan to appeal the decision by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT JO INGLES This story is part of a special series.

In The Region: A federal judge has ruled Ohio must have early in person voting on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday before Election Day. But as Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles reports, the fight is not over. |
The judge has sided with the Obama Campaign and state and national democratic parties saying the state must offer voting on that last weekend before the election.
In 2008, 93,000 Ohioans took advantage of early in person voting at boards of elections that weekend before Election Day. But since that time, Republican leaders in Ohio have changed the law to eliminate that weekend voting.
They say it is costly and unnecessary. And even with this ruling, it’s still possible Ohioans won’t be able to vote on that weekend because Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine says the state will appeal this federal court decision. |
