The area along 6th Street NE, Canton where four men in a parked car were fired upon from an SUV driving by. One was wounded in the leg
Cantonians tend to think of their town as a place of big trees, historic old churches and quiet neighborhoods. The shootings this month have residents asking "what is going on?"
Live United is the message on the banner for Canton's UW fund drive. Most of the 11 shooting incidents this month happened within a mile or two of the message over Market Street

Twelve-twenty A.M., shots were fired into a parked car in the Riverside Park area on Canton’s NE side…from a passing SUV.  One of four men in the parked car was wounded in the leg.  An hour later, three men walking about a mile to the north also suffered non-life-threatening wounds from gunfire from an SUV.  Canton Police Captain David Davis says detectives don’t know if it was the same vehicle, but are looking for any links among the rash of summer shootings.  “we believe several are connected and we’re trying to connect the other ones.”

And Davis says there is heightened police presence: “we have increased patrols in targeted areas, and we’re trying to keep our officers as highly visible as possible to deter this kind of activity.”

He also is asking for the public’s help. ‘If anyone has any information in regards to any of the shootings, they can call the Canton Police Detective Bureau…and they can remain anonymous.”

The phone number is (330) 489 – 3144.  There have been no arrests yet in any of the 11 shooting cases.  There has been one fatality, and counting the latest victims, seven people have been wounded since August 6th
