In The Region:

Hurricane Isaac hasn’t hit Ohio yet it but may be already having an effect on birdlife. Ohio birders have been flocking to Atwood Lake in Carroll County see a rare site: a brown pelican.
They like to keep lists of every species they see in a year or in a lifetime, so a gulf coast bird like a brown pelican has definitely caused some buzz in the bird-watching world. Professional birding guide Greg Miller knows about such excitement.  His single year bird-spotting competition was featured in the book  “The Big Year” and he was portrayed in the movie of the same name by actor Jack Black.  Miller says a brown pelican, with its 6 1/2 feet wing span is a rare site in Ohio
